La leyenda de la viuda pertenece a la tradición cultural de los pueblos del norte, que boca a boca la llevaron hasta nuestros días.
A lo largo de todo el territorio argentino hay distintos mitos y leyendas. Estos son relatos de determinados sucesos que pueden haber ocurrido o no, con personajes reales o supuestos, que basan las pruebas en indicios naturales, creencias religiosas o supersticiones. Si bien los relatos parten de una base histórica, la imaginación popular los dibuja para dar forma a las leyendas que hacen, en parte, a la identidad y patrimonio cultural de un pueblo o una región.
Los Isleños dicen que La Viuda es una mujer esbelta y joven de unos cuarenta años. Si bien nunca nadie pudo verle el rostro, versiones describen a una mujer alta y aparentemente bella. Mientras tanto, otra descripción de la viuda corresponde a una anciana a la que tampoco se le ve el rostro.
Cualquiera de las dos versiones las viudas, hielan la sangre. Por supuesto, usan ropa y mantón de color negro, con el cual las "vallistas" se cubren de pie a cabeza, mientras que las "chaqueñas", esconden la cara pero muestran un tanto las piernas.
Según las versiones, las viudas se hacen presente frente a hombres, a los cuales atemorizan y hacen "temblar de espanto".
Si usted es hombre y ha engañado a una mujer, o bien alguna de sus historias amorosas terminaron con la muerte de la dama, tenga sumo cuidado al caminar a la medianoche por senderos, caminos o puentes, dado que se encuentra a la suerte de la viuda, que seguramente aparezca para vengar a la damnificada o a quien se le haya hecho daño.
Tenga cuidado, porque según relata la leyenda, los motivos por los cuales este espectro justiciero de mujeres puede aparecer son varios: desde engaño amoroso, seguido de muerte (que no suele ser tan común, pero téngalo en cuenta por las dudas), hasta el asesinato por otra mujer que haya participado en el "fatídico triángulo de amor y muerte".
Si leyendo los párrafos anteriores usted todavía no entró en ninguna de las categorías por las cuales la viuda puede venir a atormentarlo, no se sienta a salvo aún, porque si usted no dió cumplimiento al juramento de fidelidad, seguramente obtenido bajo presión, de no volver a casarse o juntarse, en el caso que ella haya muerto, correrá peor suerte.
En ambos casos las apariciones tendrían por objeto atormentar - más bien continuar - a los exmaridos, a causa de la nueva vida que hacen junto a otra mujer, después de su muerte de la anterior pareja defraudada.
Cuentas además que La Viuda infunde mucho temor a los jinetes que se aventuran solitarios en los caminos, pues La Viuda se sube en las ancas del caballo y lo encabrita de tal manera que el jinete y su caballo inevitablemente juntos emprenden una loca carrera hasta encontrar la muerte en algún barranco.
La Viuda (The Widow)
The legend states that The Widow belongs to the cultural tradition of the villages and towns in Northern part of Chile, which was transmitted by word of mouth until nowadays.
Along the Argentine territory there are different myths and legends. These are tales specific events which could or could not have happened, with real or unreal characters, based on natural indications, religious beliefs or superstitions. Although these tales have a historical background, the popular imagination has changed them so as to make them become legends, which are of great importance for the identity and cultural heritage of a town or a region.
The islanders say that The Viuda or The Widow is a slender and young woman in her forties. Even though, nobody could see her face, different versions describe her as a tall and beautiful woman. On the other hand, other people have described La Viuda or The Widow as an old lady without a face than can be seen.
Any of these two versions can give you goose bumps. Of course, She wears clothes and a black shawl, Whereas The “Vallistas” cover their entire body with it, The “Chaqueñas” cover their faces, but they show part of their legs.
According to these versions, The Widows appear in front of men, who become terrified and tremble in fear.
If you are a man and you have cheated on your wife or if any of your love affairs ended with the lady’s death, you have to be extremely careful when you walk along a path, road or bridge at midnight since you are at the mercy of The Widow, who certainly appears to take revenge for the victim or whom has been hurt.
Be careful, because according to the legend, this avenging women ghost could appear because of many reasons, amongst them we have; infidelity, death of the victim ( which is not very common, but take it into account just in case) or even the victim can be murdered by the husband’s lover in the fateful love and death triangle.
If after reading the former paragraphs, you still have not found any category in which you may fit and because of which The Widow can torment you. Do not feel safe yet, since if you have not been faithful to your commitment , that is to say, not getting married again or live with someone, your will be terribly unlucky..
In both cases, the purpose of apparitions is to torment the ex - husbands in their lives after their wife has died- the apparitions follow them while they have a relationship with another woman.
It is also said that The Widow scares to death the horseman who ride by themselves along the lonely paths and roads, since The Widow gets on the horse’s rumps and drives it crazy so the rider and the horse end up dead in some ravine of the forests.
