La Fiura es una pequeña monstruo en forma de mujer. El mito la muestra habitualmente danzando sobre la débil alfombra de un balanceante "hualve", sin temor a que en cualquier instante se rompa y la trague el pantano.
Detiene su baile para contemplar su horrible rostro en el espejo de un charco y peinar su larga cabellera con un reluciente peine de plata. Contonea coqueta su exuberante busto y corre ágil, haciendo flamear su breve pollera roja entre los troncos quemados de los roces mimetizando sus miembros con los semicarbonizados ganchos de los árboles.
Se escabulle entre los matorrales en busca del fruto de las espinosas "chauras" que come con glotonería. El más leve ruido la asusta, adoptando de súbito caprichosas y convulsionantes posturas. Hace muecas horrendas con su feísimo rostro y con sus ojos chispeantes, casi ocultos por una descomunal nariz. Alarga sus brazos en todas direcciones y mueve nerviosamente los dedos deformes de sus enormes mano en demanda de una víctima, para "tirarle un mal aire".
La Fiura, hija única de la Condená, es la mujer del viríl Trauco, por lo cual también se le conoce como la Trauca. Más esto no le impide ofrecer su amor a todos los hombres a quienes impone como severa condición, aceptarla con los ojos cerrados. No admite mirada alguna, ni siquiera la de los animales, sin aplicar al instante su castigo. El osado que se atrevió a mirarla quedará torcido en algún lugar de su cuerpo. Si quien la mira es un niño o un animal, le deforma generalmente las extremidades, haciéndole imposible la marcha, pues los tulle.
Le encanta embrujar o encantar a los leñadores jóvenes que se internan en el bosque, dejándolos atontados sin saber donde encontrar la salida, para poseerlos durante este atontamiento.
Luchar contra ella es tarea imposible, pues posee una fuerza y destreza tal que cuantos hombres quieran pueden pelear con ella, pero los deja a todos maltrechos y contusos. En cambio a ella no se logra asestarle un solo golpe. "Es como pegarle a la sombra".
Las deformaciones causadas por la Fiura son prácticamente incurables. En casos afortunados, se consigue alivio utilizando el siguiente tratamiento: al amanecer se corta una rama de la enredadera llamada "Pahueldún", una vez transportada junto al enfermo, se la azota hasta arrancarle la savia, líquido que debe beber el enfermo y enseguida se la lleva arrastrando hasta la playa, para lanzarla al mar.
The Fiura
The Fiura is a small woman monster. The myth says that she is usually dancing on weak and fragile carpet of a balancing “hualve” not being afraid of the fact that this carpet may break and the swamp can swallow her.
She stops dancing to contemplate her hideous face in the mirror of a puddle and brushes her long hair with a shiny silver comb. she swings her hips and her exuberant bust and runs in a lively way, moving her short red skirt between the burnt logs in such a way that her extremities are confused with the semi-carbonized hooks of the tress.
She slips away between the bushes in search of the fruit of the prickly “Chauras” which she gobbles up. Even the slightest noise scares her to death. Therefore, she suddenly adopts capricious and confusing positions. She makes ugly and disgusting faces with her sparkling eyes, almost totally hidden by her huge nose. She lengthen her arms in all directions and moves nervously the deformed fingers of her immense hand in demand of a new victim in order to cast a spell (tirarle un mal aire)
The Fiura, the only child of The Condená, is the wife of the manly Trauco, therefore she is also known as The Trauca. This does not avoid her offering love to every man, thus she imposes herself on one severe condition, that is to say,accepting her with closed eyes.
She does not admit any look, not even from animals, without instantly applying her punishment. The bold one who dares to look at her will have some of the parts of his or her body crooked for ever. If children or animals happen to look at her, some of their extremities will become deformed disabling them to walk or move .
She loves bewitching or casting spells on young woodcutters who go deep into the forest, leaving them stunned without knowing where to find a way out. While they are in this state, she forces them to have sex with her.
Fighting with her is impossible, since she is so skillful and powerful that lots of men can fight with her, yet she beats them all, leaving them in a terrible state. It is impossible to punch her or hit her, it is like hitting a shadow.
The deformities caused by The Fiura are practically incurable. In very lucky cases, the person can get some relief, using the following treatment: When the day breaks, you have to cut a branch of a climbing plant called "Pahueldún", afterwards, you have to whip the sick person until the sap of the plant comes out, this liquid must be drunk by the him and the branch must be immediately taken to the beach and thrown to the sea.
