La historia se remonta al año 1550 durante la dominación española en Chiloé.
Luisa es una hermosa campesina se convierte en la querida de un noble español llamado Don Nuño. Sin embargo, el hispano, en una actitud muy común entre los varones, se compromete con una dama de su alcurnia y rechaza a Luisa que ya tenía tres hijos de su amante.
La mujer se desespera, y enloquecida por el profundo amor que sentía por Don Nuño, asesina a los niños. Y cuando ya reacciona, ya es muy tarde. Sufriendo todo el dolor que una madre siente cuando pierde a sus hijos, corre por las calles de la ciudad, llorando su desventura.
Al enterarse de los terribles hechos, el español se da cuenta de las consecuencias de sus actos, y arrepentido y desesperado ante la muerte de sus hijos, se suicida.
Luisa es enjuiciada muy rápidamente, tanto así que es ajusticiada el mismo día que se enterraba a el español.
Todo esta rápida secuencia de terribles hechos, provoca que el alma de Luisa no pueda descansar en paz, manifestándose en este mundo como "La Llorona". Los que la han visto la describen como una sombra quejumbrosa que llora desconsoladamente. Dicen que el fantasma de Luisa recorre toda América manifestando su sufrimiento.
The Llorona
The story goes back to the year 1550 when Chiloe was under the Spanish rule.
Luisa was a beautiful country woman who became the mistress of a Spanish nobleman named Don Nuño. Nevertheless, this nobleman became engaged with a lady of noble lineage and left Luisa since she already had three sons of his. This attitude was very common amongst noble people during this period in history.
This situation drove her crazy and desperate because of the deep love she felt for Don Nuño, therefore she killed her children. And when she realized what she had done, she regretted it, but it was too late. So she ran in grief across the streets, crying her misfortune.
When Don Nuño found out all these events, he realized the consequences of his acts, and feeling remorse for what he had done he committed suicide.
Luisa was immediately prosecuted and she was sentenced on the same day the Spanish Don Nuño was buried.
All these consecutive events caused that Luisa’s soul could not rest in peace, appearing in this material world as The Llorona. People who have seen her say that she is similar to a moaning shadow with an inconsolable weeping. It is said that her ghost or wandering spirit dwells in all Latin America expressing her despair.
