La Huenchur era una poderosa machi que vivía a la orilla de un gran rió junto su marido y su hija.
Cierto día su hija fue seducida por el Millalobo, y la deja sola y angustiada. La busca por todos lados, hasta que se da cuenta que fue en dirección al mar.
En su desesperación toma una frágil Dalca (canóa labrada en un tronco) y se interna en el río que desemboca al mar y se pierde en la distancia.
Tras naufragar en una tempestad, la pincoya, su nieta, va en su ayuda y reconoce a su abuela muerta llevándose el cuerpo en presencia de su padre, el Millalobo, y le pide que la reviva.
Este le da vida, con la condición de no pisar jamás tierra firme y quedar a cargo de las mareas, las corrientes marinas y las tempestades.
The Huenchur
The Huenchur is a powerful Machi ( witch doctor) who lived on the banks of the big river, together with her husband and daughter..
Once she was seduced by The Millalobo, who left her alone in anguish. She looked for him every where until she realized he had gone towards the sea.
In despair, she took a fragile Dalca ( a canoe carved in a log) and went deep into the river which was flowing into the sea and she disappeared into the distance.
After The Huenchur was shipwrecked, The Pincoya, her grand daughter went to help her and recognized her dead grandmother, taking her body in her father’s presence, The Pincoya asked him to relive her.
The Millalobo relived her on condition that she would never step on land again and she would be in charge of the tides, ocean currents and storms.
